    Unanswered: Determine table load order

Does anyone have a script that analyzes primary and foreign key relationships of tables and produces a suggested load order based upon dependancies?

    Thanks,

    Fred.

I actually wrote that up at one time... I think that I posted it in this forum too, but I can't find it now... The script isn't complex. I'll see if I can find it again (or maybe I'll rewrite it at lunch).

I would certainly appreciate it. I did try a search before I asked and I couldn't find anything either.

Why not drop the RI (and indexes) and do the load, then rebuild everything?

The physical order of data in a database has no meaning.

    I have two requirements:

    1. I'm looking at a tool that I can provide to programmers so that they better understand the dependencies involved (insert tirade about how programmers can’t even understand a simple ERD).

    2. I need to provide something like this as a foundation for a project that will extract data subsets from a production database into a training database (that’s live).
