Generally Microsoft will support two versions of a given product at a time. So when SQL 2005 comes out, SQL 7.0 will be desupported. Presumably when SQL 2008 comes out, then SQL 2000 will get desupported. But that just means that they will no longer be fixing problems in SQL 2000. The manuals, and Knowledge Base articles will be up for years after that.

    Bump...

I read that in 2004, MS changed it's policy to 5+5. Five years support and then an additional five year window of extended support. There was an addendum to the policy that indicated if MS took more than 5 years to come up with a major upgrade/release, then the initial five year period would be extended.

Does anyone have more concrete information?

Check the Microsoft Support Lifecycle Policy FAQ for their current policy statement.

That was the web page I was loking for. So, if I read the policy correctly, Mainstream support for SQL 2000 will end sometime around November of 2007?
