Exclamation Unanswered: Oracle 8i unexpected installation termination

When I try to install the 8i-client no Windows 2000 Adv Serv., using the installer, setup.exe in the cd-root won't even start. If I try autorun/autorun.exe, a window opens. In that same window, when I click Install/Deinstall products, nothing happens. jrew.exe briefly shows up in tyhe taskmanagers processlist, but disappears even quicker.
Yet, on anoter server, jrew.exe stays open, and I'm able to go through the full installationprocess.

Anyone any ideas on where I may find the cause of this strange problem?

Copy the cd to your hard drive ...
    Locate and rename symcjit.dll
    /stage/components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.7.3.0/1/datafiles/expanded/jre/win32/bin

This is a know bug with the oracle installer and a P4 machine ...

Run the installation from your local hard drive ...

Thanks! It worked. I'm not very familiar with Oracle, I'm used to Sybase, but this is a similar problem I encountered earlier with the Sybase ASE-installation.

Glad it worked out for you ... I did so many of those, that I decided to finally have 1/2 a brain and burn my own install disk with the correction ...

Well, this was my first installation of Oracle, so it was fairly new for me. With Sybase ASE-installations, I do these kind of things automatically, I've done many installations.
    Ayway, thanks!
