    Question Unanswered: Cannot successfully install DB2 - db connection does not exist

    Having problems with DB2 installation on Windows 2000. Initially I tried to install DB2 Universal Database Enterprise Edition version 7.2. Then I uninstalled it and installed the fixpack 5 for version 8.1, but when I tried to execute the first script received the following error message:

    SQL1024N A database connection does not exist.

    Explanation:

    There is no connection to a database. Other SQL statements
    cannot be processed unless an SQL CONNECT was previously
    executed.

    The command cannot be processed.

    Since then I've tried uninstalling DB2 again and installing the full 8.1 product. I cannot get past this problem. The system shows that all db2 services are started, but I stil receive the error that the connection does not exist.

    What do I need to do get the installation completed successfully?

    Issue the following statement before your other SQL statements:

    connect to database-name;

    If you have not created a database (or not installed the sample database) then you need to issue the create database command.
