    Unanswered: Create Controlfile error

    Hi,
    System: HP-UX 11i
    DB - Oracle 9.2

I'm performing a DB copy from our PROD to TEST system. I have removed all the datafiles from our TST system and performed an offline backup of our PRD system, generated controlfile, edit it and copied to our test test to execute as contro.sql. I get the folowing error when executing the control.sql on our TEST system:

    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed
ORA-19502: write error on file "/oracle/XXX/cntrl/cntrlXXX.dbf",
    blockno 2305 (blocksize=8192)
    ORA-27072: skgfdisp: I/O error
HP-UX Error: 2: No such file or directory
    Additional information: 2305

    Oracle command is:
CREATE CONTROLFILE SET DATABASE "XXX" RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG

The filesystem where its trying to write the controlfile has full permission.

    Any ideas??????

    thanks
    Bud

    Start with simple troubleshooting first.

Do you have the directory structure setup ? ie. /oracle/XXX/cntrl/
Do you have proper permission to write to the directory?
If you do, is the directory empty? ie. no control files

This is not a permission issue in terms of control file.
