    Unanswered: How to interprete Execution plans for queries

    Pls tell me where i will be able to find a good material on interpreting the Execution plans................how do i compare 2 diff plans for Quries written in 2 diff ways...giving same output

    I would try books online and Google, but unless your queries are super complicated, just try and stay away from table scans on large tables. Very bad. If you see a table scan on a large tables, try applying an index on that field unless there are a lot of inserts up dates and deletes in which case the speed you gain in reporting will be lost in transaction. There are lots of things to consider... I hate databases.

    Run them against a very large table and see which finishes first. Regarding documentation on execution plans... try BOL.

    Is this a OLTP db or a reporting db? As previously posted, if it's OLTP don't overdo the indexes.
