Unanswered: sqlplus script in UNIX KSH question

I have a sqlplus script that I want to run in the background as a cron job. However when the below script runs, it brings up sqlplus screen output. How can I get this to run silently ? Thanks!

    sqlplus /nolog<<ENDOFSQL
    connect user/password@dev

What I am trying to accomplish now at this point is to run the sqlplus and sql scripts silently without showing any prompts to process my sql queries in my sql scripts so that a report is generated after the scripts run. What is currently happening is when the shell script calls SQLPLUS, it displays the connection and logon to SQLPLUS and shows on the screen the output. How can I get this to run silently in the background? I then want to set these up in a cron job on our Solaris UNIX server.

You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.
