Unanswered: locking a cell so that it can not be changed

I have a cell that I would like to set "read-only". The cell's value is part of a calculation and when I accidently change it it causes problems. I do not want to lock the whole sheet, just the cell. Does anyone know if a macro could do this? The read-only does not need to be bullet-proof, just enough to stop me from accidentily changing. I will need to change the value periodically.

As a follow-up I guess I am interested in any method that I can use to alert myself of the change so I can undo it.

No need for macro (although it can be done). Select the entire worksheet (upper left corner), then go to Format > Cells > Protection (tab). Uncheck the box for "Locked". Then select just that cell, go to Format > Cells > Protection (tab). Check the box for "Locked". Click OK. Then protect the sheet Tools > Protection > Protect Sheet. If no password given, then it will be protected. You can change any other cell, just not that one.

You da man! (unless of course you are a women, I am being generic)) Thanks!

I guess I wasn't giving MS enough credit to think of only locking one cell. Documentation seemed like you have to lock all.

    Thanks for the "consistency"!
