    Unanswered: Cpoying a Database

    Hello again -

Well I just tried to copy our 2004 trading database and simply rename it to 2005 and deleted all of the trade data so the main trading history table is empty. For some reason the size of the 2004 db (has 1 yrs worth of trade data) and the 2005 db (which currently has no trade data) are the same size (788 MB). Any reason why? There are many queries, macros and other small tables that are transferring over but a vast majority of the data was included in this trading history table. Any suggestions on how to successfully copy this db over??

    Thanks! in advance!

Access does not do a good job of reclaiming space and tends to bloat. Therefore, you periodically need to compact it. In your 2005 DB, go under Tools, then Database Utilities, then select Compact and Repair Database. This will reclaim the space that the records that you deleted no longer need.
