Unanswered: possible to get "ORA-01555: snapshot too old" when using undo space???

    Oracle 9i

My DBA tells me that we are using UNDO space. If that is so should I be getting "ORA-01555: snapshot too old" errors?

Yes you still can get ORA-01555 when using undo tablespace

Oracle metalink suggests - researching on ora-1555 undo_retention

If you are doing select only, by SET TRANSACTION READ ONLY you may be able to avoid 1555; If your transaction runs for 2 hours, set UNDO_RETENTION > 2 hours to avoid the problem; make sure you have adequate UNDO space.

    Cool

check the undo retention time. This must be longer than yur longest running transaction. Since you are receiving this error, and not can not extend initial extent...
It is probably related to the retention time.
