Unanswered: Dataguard in NON RAC environment. Need 100% Availability.

    Hello,

I have set up Dataguard in Non RAC env.
I am trying to achieve consistent availability
    of database.
If primary crashes and I do not want to
    manually failover immediately can the
users application be directed to a logical standby in
tnsnames and continue query - insert, update and delete
functions on logical? Will the SQL Apply populate queries to Physical
standby or Primary DB? What is the best configuration for availability
    in non cluster env?

    Thanks

    Cool

If you do not fail over immediately, the user application will never see your standby (logical or physical) database to do any DML work, unless you have it set up as read only, and they know the location of it.

Failing over makes it available to the users. If you do not fail over quickly, it defeats the reason of having a standby database.
