    Unanswered: SPoFs - Oracle 9

    Hi there,

    does anyone know a website where all the Single Point of Failuers in the Oracle 9 Arhitecture are described? Please help. Its urgent for my diploma thesis. Thanks in advance !!

    You use redundancy to remove SPOF's, so do everything only once you have lots of points of failure
    i.e. raid 0, one NIC, +++

    I've never heard of a list of "Single Points Of Failure" at an architectural level. Can you get us started with an example of one so we have an idea what you are talking about?

    Hey let us create our own list!!

    1) Coffee poured on (into) server
    2) Cleaning crew unplugs server to plug in vacuum
    3) ....

    I am talking about processes like the SMON, DBW0 and so on...
    For example there is mostly ever a mirror of the redo log files, to avoid a loss.

    So what I am looking for is how to implement oracle in such a way that the failure of one process doesn't affect the whole database.

    is it possible to configure redundant SGAs/PGAs ???
    something like that.

    hope you got an idea. I am not yet that deep in with oracle...
