Unanswered: Tape backup device Not Seen in EM

    Hi Folks,

I have a SQL Server 7.0 with and exteranl SCSI tape device.
When I attempt to backup a database in EM the tape device is being greyed out.

I have add the backup device using sp_dumpdevice and made sure that it is in sysdevices table. It will not allow me to add this backup device from the drop down.

    1. Why does EM not see this device ?
    2. If I try to back this up using T-SQL will I be able to use the registared tape device.

    Thanks Folks

the em is a little glitchy in sql 7 so i would try to do it from tsql

also, the for you to access a tape device with SQL Server , it has to be installed in the local computer. seeing a remote tape device is a pipe.

    Ruprect,

    Thanks mate.

    Tape drive is local.

When I use the backup wizard it picks the new tape device.
Normally I would not have an issue and run backup to disk with T-SQL in my sleep. This is first time Ive backed up to tape in about 2 years and engineers on site to load tapes etc

Just wanted to clarify any issues before I get people on site during weekends.

    Thanks Again
