I've been a SQL Server user and low level admin for about 2 years. I demo an application that utilizes SQL Server. About 2 weeks ago my OS (Win XP pro) had issues and had to get a low level format, which rendered all my registry settings useless, but maintained the program installs.
SQL Server (2000) was one of the programs victimized.
I attempted to re-install on Friday without wiping away the previous install. I got close to the end of the process when I got the following error:
"Setup failed to configure the following server. Refer to the following server error logs and c:\windows\sqlstp.log for more information."
I opened the log file and the final line entry is: 10:57:35 C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\cnfgsvr.exe -F "C:\WINDOWS\sqlstp.log" -I MSSQLSERVER -V 1 -M 0 -Q "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" -H 1770112 -U sa -P
