Unanswered: TNS : Could not resolve connect identifier specified

    Hi there,

I have installed the Oracle 10g client on my laptop (XP), and after setting up the Oracle OCBC Driver Configuration, I test the connection.

    Next, I get following error-message :

    Unable to connect
    SqlState=08004
ORA-12154 TNS : could not resolve connect identifier specified.

I have read several threads about TNS and most of them mention the tnsnames.ora file. Yet I have searched my laptop and haven't found such file.

Anyone can help me on this one?

    Thx,

    Kevin

    Hi,

Normally the tnsnames.ora file is located in the ORAHOME/network/Admin-directory and contains the database connection descriptions, the ora clients uses to connect.

There You should check Your connection setup. Another way is using the SQLNet-Wizard to create the connection (which enables You to check the connection on-the-fly)

    Best regards

    Hi,

    thx for the reply.

Now I have fully installed the Oracle client and find the files 'tnsnames' and 'sqlnet' in the Oracle-BIN directory.

Yet I still get this error message :

TNS : could not resolve connect identifier specified.

I have exactly the same tnsnames and sqlnet .ora files as on some other pcs here, so the syntax or anything is correct.

I was thinking maybe some registry settings.

    Grts,

    k

    tnsnames

type set ORACLE_SID=<sid>, I think that might resolve it.
