Unanswered: Too Many Indexes when linking to Pervasive SQL database

I'd like to write custom reports for a client, using Access to link to a SQL database. The client has Lytec medical billing software that uses a Pervasive SQL V8 database.

I can link sucessfully to some of the tables, but when I try to link to the "Patient" table, Access says, "Too many indexes on table".

I can see the "patient" table in Pervasive's control center, and it has 248 fields! I don't know how many indexes it has.

Since the SQL database is the live data for the medical billing system, I can't modify it.

So, any ideas for how to get past the "too many indexes" problem?

    Thanks!

Do you need all those fields? Perhaps you could create a view on the SQL database (a non-destructive action) and then link to the view instead.
If it's not practically useful, then it's practically useless.

    Yes! Creating a view worked.

Yes! Creating a view solved the problem. I only need a few of the fields.

I last did serious database work in 1982, and things have changed some since then...

    Thanks for the help!
