    Unanswered: oracle database

Hi I am very new to database thingy and I had a very basic question.
Is database server same as database. Or alternativesly, whenever someone says database, does it always mean a server. Is it same for even a unix when someone says unix box does it always mean a unix server?

You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.

Without trying to give you a nonsense answer, it will mean whatever the person who said it meant it to mean. If I say "database" you can look up the definition of a database but that definition is meaningless if I was talking, for instance, about the server. Assuming that you have the opportunity to do so, if you're not sure what the person is referring to then ask him/her to clarify.

"I know what I meant, & you think you know what I meant, but do I know that you know that what I meant is what you think you know?"
