Smile Unanswered: is there any possibility that we can access DB2 on Mainframe in UDB on Unix enviromen

is there any possibility that we can access DB2 on Mainframe in UDB on Unix enviroment?

we have some tables in DB2 (mainframe), some tables in UDB on Unix. We need symchronize the data from DB2 to UDB tables?

can we create some remote unit of work in UDB to access DB2 data? this would be cross platform.

    Thanks in advance.

DB2 connect is the product that will support access if db2 mainframe from db2 on unix ..

You'll have to license db2 connect ... If you run version 8 ESE of db2 on unix, five user licenses are included ...

And, again, how you use it, ie , as a federated database or a using direct application calls to the mainframe is dependent on your application requirement ...

Thumbs up Thanks for replying. a few more questions

federated database: you mean create some object like views in UDB env, directly use those objects in UDB env?

direct application: u mean like some other stand alone programe like java to use DB2 Connect?

    thanks

If you need to join a DB2 mainframe table in the same statement with a DB2 Unix table, you will need Federated support. Otherwise you can access the mainframe without Federated support using DB2 Connect (or at least you must have a license for DB2 Connect). You can access mainframe DB2 directly or via a UNIX gateway machine that has DB2 Connect and the DB2 Client.
