    Unanswered: No connection

    Hello,

    We have a oracle 9.2.0.1.0 server on our local netwerk. This all works fine. We add the following to tnsnames.ora:

    U612.ISH.NL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ORA01)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = U612)
    )
    )

    and we can connect.

    Now we have a new server : ORA02

    I create a new database with a template(copied from first server and changed instancename). Now with enterprise manager console I can add the database to the tree. But when I want to connect it takes forever without even giving a warning. The same with sqlplus. I can connect from the second server to the first server. When I create a database with the dbca it won't be added to tnsnames.ora automatically. I append the following myself:

    UTEST.ISH.NL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ORA02)(PORT = 2030))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = UTEST)
    )
    )

    Anyone has an idea?
    The port number is different, but this should be correct.

    Question

    What error do you get?
    Did you add the database to the LISTENER.ORA file on ORA02 and re-loaded the listener?

    Arrow No error

    I don't get an error message. I changed the listener.ora but still no connection. sqlplusw is just giving me an hourglass. my listener.ora now looks like this:

    # LISTENER.ORA Network Configuration File: C:\oracle\ora92\network\admin\listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    )
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ORA02)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    )
    )

    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oracle\ora92)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    )
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = utest)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oracle\ora92)
    (SID_NAME = utest)
    )
    )

    I have no idea why the connection doesn't work.
