Question Unanswered: Creating view from different DB server

    Hi folks,

I'm trying to create a view from another database server. I was wondering if this is achievable. I've tried the following:

create view table1 as select * from SERVER2.dbase2..table1

Doesn't work at all. Anyone has any idea?

    Thanks!

If you are using sybase 12.5, try proxy tables

Unfortunately it's 11.9.2. Anyway around this?

    Thanks.

You don't need 12.5 to use CIS. Proxy tables (and CIS) are available in 11.9.2 as well. Take a look at the manuals about proxy tables and CIS.

KSherlock: Thanks for the info. I've tried on 11.9.2 and proxy tables works. Just have to iron out some user ID issues when connecting to the other DB server.

    Thanks!

    Hi folks,

Back to proxy table creation again. I've tried to create a proxy table and the server gives me the following error:

    [ERROR]
    Incorrect syntax near ')'
Cannot create an index on table 'my_tbl, because this table does not exist in database 'test_db'.
    [/ERROR]

    My syntax is as follows:

    create proxy_table my_tbl
    at "BARTDS1.sit_db..my_tbl"

    Thanks!
