    Unanswered: 4.30.2.3: Volume validation error:

Our server is running Windows 2K and ASE 12.5. When I attempt to load an existing database with the following command:

    load database Production from f:\backups\prod.dmp

    I receive the following error:

Backup Server session id is: 6. Use this value when executing the
'sp_volchanged' system stored procedure after fulfilling any volume change
    request from the Backup Server.
Backup Server: 4.30.2.3: Volume validation error: attempt to open
D:\DATA\Production.dat returned The system cannot find the file
    specified.
Backup Server: 4.27.2.1: Volume validation error: attempt to close
D:\DATA\Production.dat returned The handle is invalid.
    Msg 8009, Level 16, State 1:
    Line 2:
Error encountered by Backup Server. Please refer to Backup Server messages for details.

It seems like ASE doesn't know about the physical location of the database devices, but a sp_helpdatabase Production displays the right database devices, and a sp_helpdevice displays all the devices with the correct location of the .dat file.

Sure appreciate any suggestions anyone might have. Thanks.

you have specified the load command from the f: drive and the backup server is complaining about the d: drive.
    1. your load command should be same drive as on the server.
    2. are the dumps compressed ? if so, you will need to use ===> load database Production from "compress::f:\backups\prod.dmp"

The f:\ drive is where the database dump file resides (.dmp) and the d:\ drive is where the database device files reside (.dat). It seems like backup server can not find the database devices to restore to. But, I need to try the compress syntax because the database dump file is on a compressed drive. I'll post with the results. Thanks.
