Unhappy Unanswered: mysql install on Solaris 9

First time posting so apologies if I've got the wrong place. I'm trying to install mysql 4.1.9 from source on my Solaris 9 box. The configure, make and make test are all successful. However, the make install fails with the following (snipped)

    Making install in log
    /etc/log
make: Fatal error: Don't know how to make target `install'
    Current working directory /var/adm/log
    *** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `install-recursive'
    Current working directory /local/mpdmysql/mysql-4.1.9/innobase
    *** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `install-recursive'

I've spent all day on this and it's driving me nuts! Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Hello,
why do you try to compile yourself, there is a binary download for sol. 9 on x86 and sparc.

I agree, the MySQL team spend a lot of time optimizing the build for each OS platform and it's unlikely you're going to do better than them at the compilation process. My guess regarding your question is an install make file is missing?
