Unanswered: ASE stopped writing to error log

    Guys,

I am new to this forum. While viewing the errorlog I accidently saved it. Since then ASE 12.5.3 stopped writing to errorlog. Can someone explain me why ASE stopped writing to the errorlog and How can I make it write without restarting the server?

    Thanks in advance.

No workaround available, you need to restart the ASE Server

When ASE boots up, it opens the errorlog file by name and gets a file descriptor to it. problem is that vi created a new file (same name) with the save and updated the unix directory entry to point to that new file. ASE is still writing to the old errorlog file, but the unix directory no longer has any pointer to it. OS will garbage collect the file once the last file descriptor is closed (ie when ase is shutdown).
