    Question Unanswered: 32-bit vs. 64-bit ??

What are the advantages of 64-bit over 32-bit? Does DB2 support 64-bit architectures for Windows or Linux?

The main advantageof 64-bit is the ability address more memory. For most operating systems, DB2 32-bit can only address about 1 - 1.75GB of memory. Memory allocation, especially for buffer pools, is directly related to performance in DB2.

DB2 does have 64-bit versions for Windows and Linux. See the fixpak down load page for details and pre-reqs.

DB2 for Windows on x64 systems has a beta out now. Its available at http://www.ibm.com/software/data/db2/windows/x64.html

IBM also has a trial of DB2 on Itanium if you want to try it out.
