    All versions of SQL Server should work

    MSDE is a "cut down" version of SQL Server -- and it's Free

    about 3 diferent editions can be installed on XP

    Developers is one of them.

    I think the trial edition is another;
    I am guessing standard is the last.

    Standard won't install, but Personal, Developer, and MSDE will.
