    Unanswered: can u pls explain this?

    i have AS/400 tables and i do extract data from this using SQL.
    the SQL codes goes like this:

    select .....
    from &cmenv_ibm..ekd0740@&cmenv_host
    where ....

    can someone explain the from clause ??

    what does & and .. stand for in sql

    &somename stands for a define variable in SQL*Plus.

    You can set these explicitly with DEFINE, prompt for them with ACCEPT, or capture the result of queries with COLUMN ... NEW_VALUE.
