The characterset message is part of the standard output:
    Code:
    /Users/williamr: exp scott/tiger@dev file=test tables=emp

With the Partitioning and Oracle Data Mining options
Export done in US7ASCII character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set

About to export specified tables via Conventional Path ...
. . exporting table EMP 14 rows exported
    Export terminated successfully without warnings.
    What is not working exactly?

Are your source and destination language parameters the same? You can check this from your init.ora.If there are not it may convert the character set automaticaly but better to try identical charecter sets.

If it's a problem you're having with an error, can you post the actual error that you're receiving? Even better would be a link to the log output...
