Question Unanswered: Error while importing Database

I am trying to import the databse. I am using

    imp system/password FROMUSER=username TOUSER=username FILE=filename.dmp

After executing this I am getting following errors:

    IMP-00003: ORACLE error 942 encountered
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
IMP-00017: following statement failed with ORACLE error 942:
    Import terminated successfully with warnings.

Some of the tables were sucessfully imported to the database... I am not sure that what is not correct.

    any suggestions????

    Thanks for Help..

    What version of Oracle?
How far along was the import?
Is is possible that you were importing a procedure or trigger
that references a table from another schema that exists on the
"EXPORT" database, but not in the "IMPORT" database ?

if you add something like log='/tmp/xx.log' the import will produce a log which you can view and determine which tables etc. were not IMPORTED

    Hi,

It looks like you're using a different (higher) imp.exe version than either that which was used for the export, or for the database you're trying to import into.

    viz: I want to import a dump taken from a remote 8i database into a local 8i database. Locally I have both 8 & 9 databases, and 8 & 9 clients.

    Code:
    c:\>imp <lots or parms>..... (paths dictate this is imp.exe from 9i)

error: table or view does not exist

    c:\>c:\oracle\ora81\bin\imp <lots of parms>....

    Import terminated successfully
Admittedly, I've never seen it import a few tables and then stop though.

Please don't email me directly with questions. I've probably just got home from the pub and cannot guarantee the sanity of my answers. In fact, I can't believe I actually made it home.
