    Unanswered: Specify word breaker

    Hi

Does anyone know if you can specify certain characters to tokenise the search text(other than space and punctuation).

for example, id like to use `:` as a delimiter, word1:word2:word3 etc

    Thanks in advance

can you explain a little further? sql provides a number of string functions. are you looking for a specific value? are you trying to break up your values into seperate variables? are you trying to specify a starting point?
“If one brings so much courage to this world the world has to kill them or break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.” Earnest Hemingway, A Farewell To Arms.

    Hi

I meant when the catalog is created/indexed, normally the words in the specified columns are broken up by spaces and punctuation.
I have existing text that i want to catalog/index, but there arent any spaces.
Instead, the words are separated by colons `:`. word1:word2:word three:word4

I was wondering if you could tell SQL server to break the words using colons as a delimiter.

    Thanks

Well, this question is regarding Full Text Indexing.
I want to create a new catalog and populate it, but i was hoping you could specify your own character(s) to use as a delimiter when sql tokenises the text. Specifically the colon `:` .
I dont think CHARINDEX is what i need

    thanks in advance
