    Unanswered: Sequence

In on our project We are planning to replace the Sequence feature with our own custom logic. What are the pros and cons?

why spend good man-hours reinventing the wheel??
instead, you could work on your application.

Do you think you can code it better than Oracle who wrote the database?

there is nothing wrong with oracle sequences. For some reason users pay too much attention to whether or not there is a GAP in a sequence. WHO CARES? That is not the purpose of sequences and one never needs to show the data to a customer. It is solely used as an internal number to track a unique row.

Along with everything Duck says, sequences are highly optimized to handle lots of connections asking for sequence values concurrently, youll do well to match them under heavy loads.
