Unanswered: Is it safe to upgrade OS from 2000 to 2003 without testing???

I have always upgraded the OS on test servers before upgrading on production. We are in the process of upgrading hardware for a production server and are considering installing Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition vs. what previously existed on the server, Windows 2000 Standard Edition. How much of a risk would this present? I'm leaning towards not changing the OS until we have a chance to upgrade the test servers first.

Never deploy without testing. While everything SHOULD work just fine on the upgrade I always deploy to my test servers just incase. I didn't encounter any errors when we preformed upgrades here (at least none that I've found).

But I would still agree with your erring on the side of caution and do test/dev boxes first.

Thanks. I just heard about an issue involving linked servers. Q329332. It looks like we will be testing this for a few days before going live.
