Unanswered: Get timing without bringing back records

    In SQL*Plus I've set
    Code:
    SQL> set timing on
but when I run my query I get back about 300 records, the scrolling of which takes around 1.5 of the 1.7 minutes of the timing which is output to the screen.

Is there an option I could also set which would display the timing (in this case, 0.2 minutes), without scrolling the results?

It's making it time consuming to test several different SQL statements.

How about if you try to put the output to a table with no indexes, rather than the screen. In theory, you should have the same perfomance on the inserts for both queries.

    SQL> SET TIME on
    SQL> SET AUTOTRACE TRACEONLY
