    Unanswered: ORA-02019 : connection description for remote database not found

    Hello All,

    Please see the error below I could see in the alert log file of Oracle. The below mentioned error I am getting for Oracle version 9.0.1.0.0 on Suse Linux 9.2.

    This error I don't get daily but sometimes during the week. Date and time is also not fixed when this error will come. It seems from the error, some user is trying to access some database links which is not present or not working. I have checked all the database links and they are working.

    I can put a trace to track the error but that will slow down the whole database and client won't accept that. Can you please suggest a way to find from where this error is coming..??? OR who is trying to access the link so that I can talk to the user and can rectify the problem.

    The below mentioned error is in german langaguge, so I am pasting the english translation of the same.

    Please suggest a solution for this.

    Symptoms
    Describe on a Synonym which is based on a database link may issue error:
    ORA-2019 connection description for remote database not found
    Select from the synonym works successfully.
    Cause

    Based on the Bug 3071468 this issue happens when the local
    and the remote database have different domain name in the GLOBAL_NAME.
    For example if:

    select * from global_name;

    gives from local database:
    PROD.UK.ORACLE.COM
    and the remote database has:
    TEST.US.ORACLE.COM

    then we have different domains for the global_name.
    This does not reproduce when the domain is the same for both global_names.

    Fix

    This issue is fixed in 10.1.0.2.
    For previous versions we have the following 2 workarounds:
    1. Use View in the place of the synonym. This works.
    2. Alter one of the databases global_name , so that the 2 global_names to have the same domain.
    For example in the above example chenge the TEST database as:
    sql> alter database rename global_name to test.uk.oracle.com;
    Then you would have to drop and recreate the database link.

    Hello,

    Thanks for your response.

    The problem does not lie with the global name. I could see the problem below.

    When I query at the database, it gives something like this :

    SQL> select state,host,OS_USER,DB_USER, RETRY_TIME, FAIL_TIME, GLOBAL_TRAN_ID, OS_TERMINAL, COMMIT# from dba_2pc_pending where local_tran_id = '7.17.24';

    STATE HOST OS_USER DB_USER RETRY_TIME FAIL_TIME GLOBAL_TRAN_ID OS_TERMINAL COMMIT#
    ---------- --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- ---------------
    collecting WW009\BW1J500C bw1wenb0 GAP 11.10.05 23.03.05 GAP.c2e53015.7. BW1J500C 531540
    17.24

    But when I am trying to execute the command "rollback force '7.17.24'; " it is saying that no such transaction id exists.

    Can you please help me in removing this entry, so that I dont get the error messages in alert log.

    Please let me hear from you.
    Regards,
    Rajeev
