    Unanswered: Transaction management

    Hi!

I am using PostgreSQL 8.04 and during a transaction, I get a unique constraint violation. After that, the transaction aborts (i get errors "current transaction is aborted, commands ignored until end of transaction block").
Is there any way (or configuration) besides Savepoints/roolback to work around this problem? With oracle, the transaction can still be used...

    Thanks in advance
    Tim

There was a discussion of this recently on the PostgreSQL General group, at the PostgreSQL website. From my understanding, the development team saw this as desirable behavior - to roll back an entire transaction when an error occurred. One person asked about partial transactions, and the general response was that this would not be a good thing - updating portions of a database without updating others. The save point/rollback option was discussed.
