Unhappy Unanswered: SQL server not listening for TCP/IP client connections

I am running SQL Server 2000 on windows XP pro. I have configured (enabled) TCP/IP protocol and left the default port 1433, but SQL server still does does not listen for client connections.

Can anyone tell me what might stop SQL server from listening???

With the server running, here is what I see (nothing on 1433...):

It looks like you are running a baseline (RTM) version of SQL 2000. I believe that XP disables connections over port 1433. You need to install at least SP3a (which patches the Slammer virus among other things). Then try enabling the TCP protocol.
