Red face Unanswered: Server not Started

    Hello ,

we have replicated our Sybase Server on a second Server. The new Server si 100 % identical with the old Server.

Now we have the Problem, that the Sybase Server doesn't start on the new Server.
The last entry in the Errorlog is :

00:00000:00001:2005/11/07 09:40:44.81 server Database 'agc' is now online.
    00:00000:00001:2005/11/07 09:40:44.82 server Recovery complete.
00:00000:00001:2005/11/07 09:40:44.82 server SQL Server's default sort order is:
    00:00000:00001:2005/11/07 09:40:44.82 server 'bin_iso_1' (ID = 50)
00:00000:00001:2005/11/07 09:40:44.82 server on top of default character set:
    00:00000:00001:2005/11/07 09:40:44.82 server 'iso_1' (ID = 1).
00:00000:00001:2005/11/07 09:40:44.82 server Loaded default Unilib conversion handle.

    any ideas?

    00:00000:00001:2005/11/07 09:40:44.82 server 'iso_1' (ID = 1).
00:00000:00001:2005/11/07 09:40:44.82 server Loaded default Unilib conversion handle.

This the last stage of the server recovery process. Normally you see the message "Recovery complete" after the above lines.

So can you log in at all? or the server just dies? it is probably a good idea contact Sybase support with truss on RUN server file output

We need more information to be able diagnose the problem.

    Have you changed IP addresses?
What is the definition for this server in the interfaces file?

You can run netstat -a -n to see what port the server is listening on.

    Hi Michael,

the new Server has a new IP-address, but i made the Changes in the File interfaces:

    SYBASE
    master tcp ether maeglin 2343
    query tcp ether maeglin 2343

    SYB_BACKUP
    master tcp ether maeglin 2344
    query tcp ether maeglin 2344

and here are the Entries from the netstat command

    tcp4 0 0 172.20.40.65.2343 *.* LISTEN
    tcp4 0 0 172.20.40.65.2344 *.* LISTEN

i can connect the ports over telnet! But when i try to login over isql i must wait till 10 minutes for the sql - prompt.

    regards Frank

    Hi,

is your /etc/hosts is OK ?

    could be a dns problem.

try with your Ip directly ?
