I'm involved in a project that needs to translate existing DB2 mainframe data into Korean, Chinese, Japanese or any other double-byte language.
1. DB2 7.x on IBM/zOS Mainframe (no UNICODE)
2. Windows 2000/2003 Server running .NET and Classic ASP
3. Windows 2000/2003 Server running COM+ and Host Integration Server (COMTI)
4. COBOL programs on IBM Mainframe
Classic asp website that uses a DB2 7.x database data in which the SQL is dynamically put together in ASP - or - COMTI is implemented to return data from COBOL programs.
The website has supported multiple languages using a very simple method of selecting translated strings from DB2 tables based on a web page ID.
I have an associate running DB2 on an iSeries in which they have used CAST to accomplish double byte stuff easily. For example they are able to do the following:
SELECT CAST(CAST(MY_COL AS VARCHAR(1000) CCSID 65535) AS VARCHAR(1000) CCSID 933)
Unfortunately DB2 on zOS doesn't support this.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I might accomplish this double-byte translation?
