    Unanswered: Design Advisor

    Hi All !

I am using a db2 client to connect to my db2 udb version 8 on linux.
After I connect I try to use the db2advis command from the db2 command window, and I get a message
'db2advis' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

I did a scan of all my /sqllib/bin files and I do not see any db2advis.exe.

Is it because you have to execute db2advis only from the server ? or do I have to do something else before I can use db2advis from the client machine ?

    thanks
    Anil

I'm not sure you can run db2advis from a client, I believe it must be run on the server.

You should be able to use the advisor through the Control Center, though. Right-click on any database and select "Design Advisor".

I think db2advis *can* run on a client; only it has to be an Administration client...

I checked on my machine (admin client / windows), doesn't seem to have it.

The Design Advisor does not need db2advis executable on client side,
because the actual work will be done on the server side.
If you mis-configure the database catalog, you may get DBA2193.
So, please check your node catalog, admin node catalog at first.
ie. take node directory and admin node directory with detail option to
see if correct REMOTE_INSTANCE, SYSTEM, OSTYPE options are specified.
The Design Advisor on Windows Admin client shows the valid suggestions
for the database on AIX server in our test.
