    Unanswered: ODBC Driver Error Message


    I am using Oracle with IIS 6.0.
    When ever my asp application tries to access the database it comes up with the following error message

    The Error Number is: :

    The Error Description is:
    [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

    I can connect to the database through sqlplus / sql navigator etc

    Can anyone pls help??

    A few things to check. First, are you using the Merrant ODBC drivers installed by the Oracle Client software? Second, did you correctly define and test the ODBC datasource defined on the computer where IIS is running? Third, when you test the connection do you see entries appended to the end of listener.log - if not then you're not getting that far and can isolate the problem back to the client setup. The error message I think is a catch-all, and probably has a hundred causes.

    Ensure that you have the odbc driver kit. It is a separate download
    from the 8.1.7 distibution. I resolved many problems by pulling that odbc
    download. It's about 1meg in size.
