    Unhappy Unanswered: criteria in query

    pls. help, when I set enter name as my criteria in the query it works but you have to enter the exact name..example you have to type the name alexander and not alex only..

    so what else do you expect - intellignece from computer software?

    unless you speify a wild card character ("*", or "%" if running in ANSI compatibility mode) when you specify criteria it will look for an excat match

    so to find "Alexander", "Alexadry" specify your criteria as "Alex*"

    have a look at the help system for wild card for further rules you can use to match against

    Of course it only works if you type in "alexander" exactly. If it didn't, how would you tell the computer to only allow the exact string "alexander".
    oh yeah... documentation... I have heard of that.
