    Unanswered: Hash/checksum function in Sybase

    Hi folks,

Is there a built in function in Sybase ASE 12.5 which I can call to return a checksum/hash value of a string?

If there isn't, has anyone here coded one in Sybase stored procedure?

    Thanks.

Can't do this via stored proc, perhaps extended stored proc or java. There are few java hashsum .jar available, you can install this on ASE. Although you would need a JAVA license.

I remember seeing someone post an MD5 implementation using Sybase T-SQL (i.e. stored procs). It was pretty slow, and of course you can't call it in-line as a function.
A simple CRC-32 checksum would be a lot easier to implement in pure SQL.
