    Unanswered: Help with compiling

Ok, First Im not a programmer, just some one who has done direct mail for
over 20 years. I am having trouble with compiling a program I use and NEED
HELP!. I have search the infinite internet and read ALOT of things about
compiling but I still cant figure it out. Ive tried asking several
workgroups and have not gotten any responses.

I work with DBASE alot and DOS and DOS text editor. I have a permit program
that I need to edit the contents at time. Then I need to compile it to
create the 'changed' output file (Currently called permit.a) That is what I
used to send to my printers.

Below is the exact language of the program: (Permit.prg)

    PARAMETER COUNT, LPI
    IF PCOUNT()<>2
    CLEAR
    @ 10,10 SAY 'CREATES 1UP WITH PERMIT 1 - BULK MAIL'
    @ 12,10 SAY 'PERMIT <AMOUNT OF LABELS> <LINES PER INCH>'
    @ 14,10 SAY "CREATES FILE NAMED 'PERMIT.A'"
    ?
    QUIT
    ENDIF

    IF .NOT. (LPI='8' .OR. LPI='6')
    CLEAR
@ 10,10 SAY 'LPI MUST BE EITHER 6 OR 8!'
    ?
    QUIT
    ENDIF
    CLEAR
    @ 10, 10 SAY 'PRODUCING LABELS'

    STORE VAL(COUNT) TO COUNT
    STORE CHR(013)+CHR(010) TO CRLF
    STORE CHR(012) TO FF
    STORE 27 TO X

    **** FOR MT660 ****
    STORE CHR(027) TO CT
    STORE CT+CHR(091)+"4m" TO STARTUNDER
    STORE CT+CHR(091)+"0m" TO ENDUNDER
    STORE CT+CHR(091)+'3z' TO LPI6
    STORE CT+CHR(091)+'4z' TO LPI8
    STORE CT+CHR(091)+'4w' TO CPI10
    STORE CT+CHR(091)+'5w' TO CPI12
    STORE CT+CHR(091)+'1m' TO BLACK
    STORE CT+CHR(091)+'0m' TO ENDBLACK
STORE CT+'[14m'+CT+'[6z'+CT+'Pb' TO BARON && ALSO SETS TO HS FONT -
    10lpi
STORE CT+'[10m'+CT+'[4z' TO ENDADD && SETS TO DP FONT - 8 lpi

    STORE CHR(027)+'[200;142 B' TO BIGFONT
    STORE CHR(027)+'[100;0 B' TO NORMFONT

    PUBLIC SIDE,STARTUNDER, ENDUNDER, LPI6, LPI8, CPI10, CPI12,

    HANDLE = FCREATE("PERMIT.A",0)

    IF LPI = '8'
    FOR I = 1 TO COUNT
    FWRITE(HANDLE,space(x)+ " Prsrt Std"+CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE,space(x)+ " US Postage"+CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE, " PAID "+CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE,space(x)+ " Permit 751 "+CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE,space(x)+ " Ft Myers FL "+CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE, CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE, CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE, CRLF)
    NEXT
    ELSE
    FOR I = 1 TO COUNT
    FWRITE(HANDLE, " Prsrt Std"+CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE, " US Postage"+CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE, " PAID "+CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE, " Permit 751 "+CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE, " Ft Myers FL "+CRLF)
    FWRITE(HANDLE, CRLF)
    NEXT
    FWRITE(HANDLE, FF)
    ENDIF

    @ 12,10 SAY 'ALL DONE'
    ?
    QUIT

I used to be able to just type clx permit.prg and it would 'code, Pass 1
    Pass2)
But it doesnt seem to be doing anything now. It is NOT creating a new
    'Permit.a' file.

The permit.exe lets me choose how many 'labels' I want printed and whether I
    should use 6LPI or 8LPI

What is in my directory is:
    permit.prg
    permit.exe
    permit.obj
permit.a (the output file)(a previous version of permit.a that has been
    there)

Can anyone help me to get this to work?? or point me in the right direction
    of who can?
Again I AM NOT a programmer, so I dont understand all the C C++ language and
    stuff.
I am trying to get this to run in DOS not Windows.

Thank you so much in advance

Sounds like you are using or have in the past, used 'Clipper', which is an xBase language compiler. C++ really has nothing to do with it.

Anyway, I haven't use Clipper since around 1988. But there is a fairly active Clipper forum on Tek-Tips.com. They could probably help you out.
