    Unanswered: Scripts

    Hello everyone,

What are the options in converting shell scripts to its equivalent in OS/390 or z/OS.

    Thanks in advance.

There is no equivilent. In many cases you will need to execute job steps with JCL using OS or DB2 utilities. However, it really depends on the specifics of what you need to do and there is general answer to that question.

The syntactic possibilities of JCL come close to the most frequently used possibilities of shell scripts. (At least, for non-interactive use.)

Or, depending on the context of use, you might consider using USS.

I meant, executing the shell script within USS. (But I have no experience with USS, so I cannot give an details, nor do I know whether this is possible from within JCL.)
My remarks on JCL on the one hand, and USS on the other hand, are to be seen as two unrelated options.

Isn't it what REXX is for?

We do quite some logic(loops etc) in REXX as well ... so that would be the equivalent for me too.

Still, if you just want jobs to be done (like a backup script) JCL should be sufficient.
