Question Unanswered: syb_backup...sp_who does not return

I need to be able to do a heartbeat check for a remote backup server. However, doing an sp_who on a backup server seems to kill execution of a procedure. When i run the code below on my server, it never prints the ending statements. What is the problem here ?

    drop proc test_proc
    go
    create proc test_proc
    as
    print "THE START"
    exec SYB_BACKUP...sp_who
    if @@error != 0
print "What is the problem here"

    if @@error = 0
print "What is the problem here"

    print "THE END"
    go

    exec test_proc
    go

Angry Well, here is what i found

When I run with cis rpc off for the session it works.

    set cis_rpc_handling off
    go
    exec test_proc
    go

This gives me the correct results. Why should it matter if I use ASE site handler or the CIS RPC option? Any ideas ?
