    Post Unanswered: Heartbeat check method

    Hi Guys,
    Looks like my earlier post did not make much sense. I need a reliable method of doing a heartbeat check for a remote ASE and backup server from a stored procedure. I set up the 2 servers for RPC and thought I could use REMOTE_ASE...sp_who and REMOTE_BCK...sp_who. THese work fine when the servers are up and running. But when they are not running, my stored procedure stops at that point and does not continue execution.

    Any ideas on how to do this through a procedure ?

    Thanks,
    Harki

    The behaviour is a CIS bug. You can intead do yoru thing using site handler which comes with a timeout setting as well.

    set cis_rpc_handling 0
    go
    <your code>

    Unhappy cis_rpc_handling does not work on failure

    The cis_rpc_handling option works fine when the remote (ASE/backup) server is running. But when the server is not running it simply quits and returns from the procedurs with out bothering execute the subsequent statements. This really sucks that I cant do a heartbeat check from within a stored proc. I tried the connect option of cis and all of them behave the same
