    Unanswered: Connection refused error message

I am trying to connect sybase 12 db through JDBC. Sybase is installed in Windows 2003. Following error message is displayed "Network error IOException: Connection refused: connect"

I am using JTDC drivers for connection. I am able to connect them using Sybase clients. The hostname, port etc are correct.

Any pointers would be great fully received.

The most likely problem is that the host/port combination that you are using at the client is NOT the same as the one the Sybase server is listening on.

There might be multiple IP addresses on the server, or Sybase may be listening on the loopback address (localhost), or...

JTDC??? Are you talking about jTDS?

Remember the connection URL for jTDS is different to Sybase jConnect.
    Code:
    jdbc:jtds:sybase://server[:port][/database][;property=value[;...]]
    For Eg:
    Code:
    jdbc:jtds:sybase://uhx0401.socceerlive.net:5000/pubs2;user=willy;password=cigar
Additionally, "Network error IOException: Connection refused: connect" means, java cannot open a socket to the specified tcip port.

Check if you can telnet to the dataserver port from the client machine?
Check if there are any firewall issues that are blocking the connection?
