Unanswered: accessing *.BTR files - importing to MS Access

    Hello.

I have an app that uses data files with a BTR application. We are using Pervasive 7. I do have corresponding DSC files for each data file.

I want to extract the data in a formatted matter (i.e. such as comma delimited) to create a database in MS access. The app I am using does have an export utility, but it is limited.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Check out http://www.goldstar-sw.com/btrvodbc.asp.
It's a good primer on accessing Btrieve files using ODBC. Basic overview of things you'll need:
    1. DDFs. The DDFs describe the Btrieve files. They are not DSC files.
    2. ODBC driver. PSQL 7 had a seperate ODBC driver install. Newer versions have ODBC included with the client install.
Once you've got an ODBC DSN, you can import or link the tables using Access or any ODBC compliant app.

Thanks for the advice, however, I do not have DDFs for the BTR files.
I do not have the ability to create the needed DDFs. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Matt

The only way to access Btrieve files through ODBC or Access or any third party tool is to have DDFs. If you know the exact record structure (down to the byte), you can create DDFs using any number of tools including Pervasive's own tools. If you don't know the exact structure you are going to need to get the DDFs from the vendor of the application.
