Deadlocked processes won't show up in sp_who - if Sybase detects a deadlock one of the processes's transaction is aborted to resolve the deadlock. You can get more information on what caused the deadlock in the server error log by setting the "print deadlock information" sp_configure option to 1.

The answert to your other questions is "it depends". In general you increase the size of the data caches to increase performance, but setting them depends on the size of your databases, the amount of memory on your machine, etc.

For the systemdatabases, keep the default settings. Most of the time, that's sufficient.
Memorysettings should be adjusted carefully. Since you only have 512 MB, I would set more than half of that to be used for ASE (max memory).

    1. Enable the print dead lock parameter by using sp_configure. It will print the deadlock info in data server errorlog from their you can determine the objects involved in deadlock.
    2. This entirely depends upon whether apart from data server process server is used for any other sort of processing. If it is for ASE only then set max memory (ASE parameter) to 350 MB & then set data cache, procedure cache & other parameters.
