there is no service manager in sql 2005.
U should use Sql Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration
    or
SQL server 2005 Configuration Manager tool, to start and stop services.
    Another option is command line.
I love cursor, though I never use it.Cos' I dont want to misuse it.

Sql Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration -->Surface Area Configuration For Services and connections,Click on Database Engine--> click start button.

Then open sql server management studio.
