    Unanswered: Scrambled mysql dump?

    Hi,

I need to move large databased around occasionally, but I keep finding that certain data is scrambled.

For example, a bullet point in my records comes out as ''. Other things like this in my records also get scrambled.

Is there any way to stop this?

I have tried downloading the file, opening it in Textedit (OS X) and replacing all the symbols, but then it won't import again... even using BigDump. Arrrggghhr.

Or, is it possible to do a replace function in MySQL once the data is in, to replace the symbols?

Thanks for any ideas on this.

    Yaza

sounds like you have a mismatch between the differing servers character sets. I thought you could specify in the backup whether to include such information as part of the schema
I'd rather be riding on the Tiger 800 or the Norton

    Hmm, thanks Mark.

I have taken a look in PHPmyadmin, but it doesn't tell me what character set I am using, or how to change it.

    Is this easy enough?

    Thanks.
